    Nominate an Outstanding Teacher for the
    Shell Science Teaching Award

    Do you know an outstanding K–12 science teacher—or are you one yourself? The Shell Science Teaching Awards recognize exceptional educators who inspire students, schools, and communities through exemplary classroom science teaching.
    The Shell Science Teaching Award recognizes one outstanding K-12 teacher who positively impacts their students and community through exemplary science teaching. The winner receives $10,000 plus an all-expense paid trip to the NSTA National Conference in Spring 2026.
    The Shell Urban Science Educators Development Award provides support to K–12 classroom science teachers in urban settings who are pursuing professional development and serves to increase the science educator talent pool in STEM to meet the education workforce challenges of the future.

    STEMConnector Seeks Presenter Proposals for the 2025 STEM Innovation Forum

     

    This year’s forum, “Finding Common Ground,” will take place in Columbus, Ohio on November 17-18, 2025. STEMConnector is accepting learning session proposals and innovation showcase submissions.     Governor’s STEM School Designation Application Open Now!

    The Governor's Office of Science, Innovation and Technology is charged with identifying and awarding recognition to schools in Nevada, each year, that demonstrate exemplary STEM learning environments. Such schools are designated as Governor’s STEM Schools and are honored at an annual recognition event. Designation as a Governor's STEM School denotes that the school meets the highest standards of STEM instruction and is a model for schools around the state.

     

    Once designated, schools join the Designated STEM School Network wherein they access professional learning, networking, and funding opportunities.

     

    Applications for the designation are due December 5, 2025 by 5:00PM PST.

    As the State continues to diversify the economy by recruiting STEM industry, Nevada’s education systems are providing high-quality and career-connected STEM learning experiences to students. Nevada’s students are acquiring STEM skills, mindset, interests and identities that will propel them and the State forward. The STEM Teacher of the Year Program will recognize individual leaders’ impact on the State’s STEM education and workforce goals.

    Each Regional STEM Teacher of the Year and each Regional STEM Advocate of the Year will receive a certificate from the Governor along with a digital seal and a swag bag from OSIT and NDE. Regional winners will be recognized at their school site or organization and invited to their designated Regional STEM Network convening to accept their award.

    The Nevada STEM Teacher of the Year and the Nevada STEM Advocate of the Year will receive a certificate from the Governor, a digital seal, a swag bag, and a monetary stipend of $500. The winners will be presented with their award at their school site or organization.

    The Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) and Nevada Division of Minerals are committed to providing teachers with knowledge and tools to assist them in providing quality K-12 earth science instruction. NVMA and the Division of Minerals host two earth science workshops annually, one in Southern Nevada and one in Northern Nevada. These workshops focus on a broad range of earth science topics, including mineral and rock identification, rock formation, geologic processes, the importance of mined materials, and the role that mining plays in 21st-century lives. Teachers are provided tools for accurate, standards-based science lessons. Workshops include tours of operating mines and geologic sites of interest.

    Workshop Dates :

    • Las Vegas - March 12-13,2024
    • Reno - April 2-3, 2024

    The workshops provide:

    • The opportunity to receive professional development credit
    • The ability to share earth science knowledge with peers
    • Completed, ready-to-use, grade level appropriate lessons plans.

    The Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation is pleased to announce the application is now open for the Nevada Outdoor Education & Recreation (NOER) grant program. $250,000 in funding is available for youth outdoor education and recreation projects in Nevada. Eligible applicants include local, state, and tribal governments, schools, nonprofit organizations, and community groups.

    Applications are due October 6, 2023. Submit applications via email to NOERgrant@ndor.nv.gov . Applications will be reviewed by NDOR Staff and/or the Advisory Board on Outdoor Recreation and awards will be announced beginning December 2023.
